Theodore Lee - Part 6
Later in the afternoon, Papa picked me up. He looked happy, he looked like he wants to tell me something, but he’s trying to keep it. He would glance at my direction from time to time, biting his smile away.
“Is there something you want to tell me, Papa?” I asked and he looked happier that I noticed.
“Yes, but let’s wait till we get home okay?” He replied and brushed my hair softly, “How about you? How’s my big boy’s first day?”
“I have two new friends! Ivan and Lilith, they are really nice!” I took a deep breath and continued, “Lilith sings with her parents and Ivan’s a soccer player.” Sometimes saying long sentences can be such a struggle for me. I was thinking if I should tell him that the kids in our school call us Powerpuff Girls, maybe later.
“You look like you wanna tell me something.” Papa said and took my small hands with his big ones. I always wonder if I would ever be as big as my Papa, probably not. If only my asthma could go away.
“Yes, but let’s wait till we get home okay?” he laughed when he realized I copied what he told me and squeezed my hand tenderly.
Mama kissed me all over my face when Papa and I reached home. Even though I’m old now I still enjoy it when Mama and Papa treat me like a baby. Papa would sometimes say it to me but he would always end up doing the same thing. I could tell they love me so much.
“So how’s your day cupcake?” Mama said as she sat beside me, curling her arms around my shoulders.
“It was good! I have two new friends! Lilith and Ivan,” I said, breathing audibly and told her what I told Papa earlier.
“You said you have something to tell me when you get home” Papa said walking towards the couch where Mama and I were sitting. He sat beside me and placed his arms on Mama’s shoulders. We’re cuddly like this and I adore it so much. Mama looked into my eyes, she looked worried.
“It was… it’s just…” I took deep breath and said “Powerpuff Girls” both of them looked puzzled.
“I have this classmate who calls me, Lilith, and Ivan, Powerpuff Girls.” Papa moved in front of me and took my hands in his.
“Why did he do that? Did he hurt you?” He asked seriously.
“No. It’s okay, I have Lilith and Ivan with me,” I said and smile reassuringly; I hate it when I make them worried, “What about you Pa? You also said that you’ll tell me something when we get home.” His slightly crumpled forehead relaxed and he smiled.
“My colleague who has a son who’s a soccer player just recommended me this online tutoring website. Theodore won’t be late with their lessons anymore if his asthma happens to attack again.”
