Kirk’s Entry

You guys probably know me already. That random kid, Kirk, who gives out flyers in the hallways. That kid who goes around giving flyers. The kid who sends Teachers-to-GO!’s link to his friends who are in need.

Yep, That’s me! I’m Kirk. I’m an incoming junior next school year. You are probably wondering why I’m handing all those flyers around school, but I cannot answer that. I will let my friend, Lien Hua, to tell you about my story. ; )

Now, what’s the point of this entry? Well, it’s just that, I’ll be in Thailand this summer! Take note, I’ll be spending 7 days of my summer there! I will not (I am not even trying to) hide that I am excited! Very much excited! Rather than a vacation, this is more of 7-day summer class overseas. (OMG. OMG. OMG.)

PGEM or Paradigm Global Education Management is the host for this Service Learning Project in Thailand. The project also has varieties, like Cambodia 5 or 7 days, Laos 5 or 7 days, Vietnam 5 or 7 days, and Thailand 5 or 7 days. PGEM's service-learning tours hope to encourage responsible tourism that will allow local residents to earn supplemental income through providing services and products to visiting school groups. What more is that the local communities are eager to introduce their local traditions and cultures in unique and exciting ways to allow the student participants to "see the world through the eyes of another."

Now let me show you the highlights of the programme!

  • Walking tour in the historic city of Chiang Mai
  • Trek to Maermit Village for service homestay and service learning project
  • Volunteer at local village; students can help in teaching activities at local grade school
  • Making a bicycle from natural materials
  • Campfire and games with local children in the evening
  • Souvenir shopping on final day

The accommodation will also be in a 3-star hotel and for homestay; it will be in the service project village site. Full breakfast, lunch and dinner meals are also provided throughout the programme. Each student will also receive a free 1-hour University Counseling with one of PGEM’s experienced consultants!

I’m totally excited for this! I’m thrilled to meet new people and immerse in a new culture! Programmes like these makes you think, that there is indeed a whole new world out there for you to explore!
